What is a webinar?
Short for web-based seminar, a webinar is a presentation, lecture, workshop, etc that is transmitted over the web. Attending a webinar is like attending any seminar. Instead of meeting in a conference room we will meet in a virtual conference room on the web.
A key feature of a webinar is that it is interactive—unlike a webcast, in which data transmission goes one way, webinars allow presenters and audience members to give, receive, and discuss information. At Markedu we put emphasis on interaction – hence we seldom allow more than 50 people to attend each webinar.
Why a webinar?
Get access to the latest trends and industry developments quickly and easily on your computer. No need to travel or stay overnight at a hotel. Save money on travel expenses and still be able to experience a live web seminar. You can attend from the comfort of your own computer at work or at home.
How can a webinar be as effective as a live workshop/seminar?
Face-to-face continues to be the most compelling way to learn. However, as travel budgets are cut and training budgets reduced, it made sense to offer an alternative method for professional development. Webinars do not try to emulate face-to-face workshops, but rather capitalise on the characteristics of the web to offer convenient and interactive training.
What is required to participate?
Basically, a computer, tablet or smartphone with access to the internet is all you need. No special software is required to participate. The only requirement for viewing the webinar is to have the latest Adobe flash player version installed. (Most browsers already have adobe flash player installed.)
